Nasce a Matera, già capitale europea della cultura per il 2019, la prima testata giornalistica online interamente dedicata alle capitali nazionali ed europee della cultura. Si chiama EcocNews - All news about European and national Capitals of culture. La testata, interamente in lingua inglese, nasce dalla necessità di dare una casa comune alle capitali europee della cultura, al momento già proclamate fino al 2025, alle città europee che si candidano, ma anche alle capitali nazionali della cultura e alle città che si candidano a guadagnare questo titolo.
Attualmente la testata, fondata da Serafino Paternoster, già coordinatore dell'ufficio stampa di Matera 2019 sia durante la candidatura che durante l'anno da capitale, e diretta da Mariateresa Cascino con il supporto editoriale di Caterina Venece, si divide in quattro sezioni: News, con le notizie principali, Capitals, in cui è possibile trovare informazioni su quello che accade nelle capitali nazionali ed europee della cultura, Events, con le principali produzioni culturali, Ecoc of the year, con le attività proposte dalle capitali europee dell'anno in corso (Galway e Rijeka per il 2020-2021).
"Il sito - afferma Mariateresa Cascino - si candida a diventare un importante strumento di supporto alla comunicazione delle capitali della cultura e va a coprire un vuoto informativo che non è mai stato colmato in 35 anni di storia delle capitali europee".
La testata ha già ricevuto numerosi apprezzamenti dai direttori di diverse capitali europee della cultura e si prepara a ospitare i contributi di alcuni fra i più autorevoli esperti di capitale europea della cultura.
La struttura si arricchirà a breve di nuove sezioni. In particolare, l'obiettivo è quello di ospitare un archivio non solo delle capitali, ma anche delle città candidate e che non hanno guadagnato il titolo in modo che il loro ricco lavoro non venga disperso.
Fra le notizie attualmente sul sito anche diversi bandi rivolti ad artisti e industrie creative internazionali.

The first online newspaper entirely dedicated to national and European capitals of culture is born in Matera, formerly the European capital of culture in 2019. It is called EcocNews - All news about European and national Capitals of culture. The magazine, entirely in English, was born from the need to give a common home to the European capitals of culture, currently already nominated until 2025, to the European cities that apply for this title, but also to the national capitals of culture and cities who are applying to earn this title.
Currently Ecoc News is divided into four sections: News , with the main news, Capitals, where you can find information on what is happening in the national and European capitals of culture, Events, with the main cultural productions, Ecoc of the year, with the activities developed by the European capitals of the year ongoig (Galway and Rijeka for 2020-2021). The magazine has been founded by Serafino Paternoster, former coordinator of the Matera 2019 press office both during the candidacy and the capital year, and directed by Mariateresa Cascino with the editorial support of Caterina Venece.
